The Good, The Bad and The Funny

The Good

Trent is 18 days old, and I understand what all of you parents meant when you said, "You'll never love someone so quickly!" We are crazy about him! Thank goodness we're crazy about him, because he has turned our lives upside down:)
He went for his 2-week weigh-in Monday, and he was up to 8 pounds 10 oz. I loved it! I am nursing exclusively right now, and it made me super nervous not knowing how much he was eating. Apparently our boy is eating well.
He's met so many special people. I forgot to take pictures of many visits {which is surprising, considering I've probably taken 500 pictures in the past 18 days.}

The Bad

We love to sleep, and it appears our child didn't inherit this quality. For those of you that use "Baby Wise," he follows the eat-wake-sleep pattern perfectly... but he follows it 24 hours a day. He wants to stay awake after night feedings, and it makes me crazy. He can go 5-6 hours at night between feedings, but the first 1-2 hours are not spent sleeping.

He hates being swaddled. He likes keeping his hands near his face when he's sleeping. I don't mind not swaddling him, but it goes back to the sleep thing...
We're hoping and praying this is just a phase:)
The Funny

Our water bill is going to be outrageous {and not just because we're doing three times as much laundry.} Maybe it's because I took lots of baths while I was pregnant, but Trent LOVES the sound of the bath water running and the jets in the tub. So, when he is fussy and I need to shower and get dressed, I've been known to put him in the bouncy seat and turn on the water.
We go to Starbucks most mornings. After his morning feeding, the little man is often a little fussy. All it takes is putting him in the car seat and heading to the Starbucks drive-thru to put him right to sleep.

The child poops 8 times a day... and you hear and smell it each time! He also makes some hilarious faces.

Now, the pictures...

**I promise I don't put him in the same outfit every day. These last few pictures were all taken today:)

Sweet Babysitter

She sits next to him ALL day. If I'm holding him, she sits right next to us. If he cries, she looks at us like, "What are you going to do? He's upset!" She even gets up with us in the middle of the night. Too bad she can't change diapers:)
Trent met his cousin, Hannah, last week. Hannah loved holding him, and she also enjoyed seeing his room and playing with his toys (since he's too little to play with them right now).
He was searching for his thumb. He eventually found it.
"Please ignore my outfit. My mommy fixed it and tried to take another picture, but I kept closing my eyes when I saw the flash." -Trent

More pictures of the little man

Here are some more pictures of our little sucker, as I've nick-named him. He was sucking his thumb within a couple of hours of birth. He also loves the pacifier. We're trying to keep his hands covered, because he scratches his little face, but the pediatrician informed us today that we're probably not going to win the thumb-sucking battle. {Nice... our child is 4 days old, and he's already beating us, haha!} At least he took to nursing very well:)

Our first family picture

The whole family came to celebrate Trent

Big Yawn!

Great friends

Doesn't he look peaceful? I wish he would do this a little more:)

One of my favorite pictures yet!

Trent's future girlfriend was also born last week. Lillian Carter is beautiful, and I can't believe I haven't gotten my hands on her yet!!

Better go-- the little guy is waking up. He's been sleeping in his car seat since we got home from the pediatrician office this morning. I've already learned not to wake a sleeping baby:)

Trent Michael Reed

Trent is here!! He arrived Sunday, January 11th at 1:33 pm. He was 8 pounds 3 oz and 20 inches long. We are so blessed and excited! We came home today, so I'll make sure to post more pictures soon. {I think there are close to 200 on camera!} Please keep us in your prayers:)

Big Girl

Since I expect Trent to take over the blog soon, I want to dedicate this post to Bailey.

Unfortunately, it's not all good news for our B. Her yearly physical was this afternoon, and we've been a little concerned about her weight. She weighed 84 pounds a couple of months ago, and we know she's supposed to stay under 80 pounds. We bought Science Diet Light and started limiting her "people food."
Well, our big girl weighed in at 88.4 pounds today! The vet. was very nice but said her ideal weight is 75 pounds- hmm... 13 pounds overweight is too much. He asked about treats, and I told him she only gets a treat in the morning when she gets the paper {which I felt good about.} He suggested I start giving her ICE or FROZEN GREEN BEANS instead of Pup-peroni. I personally feel that running out in the cold, rain, heat, etc. and bringing in a paper is worth more than a few frozen green beans, but I told him we'd give it a whirl. He even showed me that B has a "straight" shape instead of a "hour-glass" shape {well, don't we all want an hour-glass shape, but we can't all have one.} Thankfully, all of her blood work and other tests came back great, and she was perfect during her shots. The vet. even said she has a "slow, athletic" heart rate. I told Mike that I'm a little concerned about our parenting skills, since we let our dog get fat.

Anyone have any tips to slim down a dog? We're cutting her food from 5 cups to 4 cups, and we're going to try the green beans. I still think she's beautiful, even at 88.4 pounds.

Making Progress

It looks like Trent is getting ready to meet the world. This morning I was 2cm dilated and 60-70% effaced. Last week I was only 1cm and not at all effaced. I asked Dr. S the chance of him coming before my 39 week appt. next Monday, and he said 25%. I'm not miserable, I'm still sleeping well, and I have some fun lunch/dinner dates with friends this week, so I'm okay with those odds.

In the meantime, I will be eating lots of these...
They are fabulous, and since they are only 100 calories, I eat 2-3 packs at a time!

Happy New Year!

We had fun at the Murder Mystery party last night. Mike had a pretty big role; I had a pretty small role, and unfortunately neither one of us guessed the correct murderer {Mike had it narrowed down to two people, and we both put the wrong one; next time we will divide and conquer.} As you can see, the costumes were great!

Our day today is centered around food. We started with breakfast at Starbucks and Hardees; we're planning on lunch at Cracker Barrel {11:00, so we can beat the crowd} and Japanese for dinner. We'll probably find time for a nap between lunch and dinner:) Happy New Year!
