I knew something was going on when he got quiet in the bathroom.

Now for the big boy...

What do you think about this jacket? He likes it. He was shocked when I said I thought it was hideous wouldn't have picked it out.

This morning I told him I wanted a pair of cowboy boots, and he said, "Please tell me you're not going to wear them outside of your jeans." When I told him that I plan on doing just that, he responded, "I think my jacket looks better than boots outside of jeans." HA! And he wants me to let him blog! I suggested he start his own blog, but he said he wanted my "readers." HA again! I told him all 10 of you would quit reading, but I am thinking about letting him give it a shot. He might have some really good material after he takes care of Trent all week while I'm in California for work. {Don't be jealous. I will be stuck in meeting rooms for four days, missing my boys like crazy!}

There will probably be lots of this going on while I'm gone. I told him the least he can do is teach the boy how to walk.

Sipping and Snacks

He is sipping... through a straw!

Thanks for the comments on my last post. I'm glad I'm not alone in the sippy cup battle. Trent has always liked straws, so when my friend Mindy recommended these, I decided to give them a shot. He drank out of them all day yesterday and with breakfast and lunch today. I gave him juice, but I don't think it's a juice/milk issue with Trent. He just didn't want to drink out of any of the 8-10 different sippy cups I tried sippy cups. I'm very proud of him, and I'm excited about cleaning out the cabinets and getting rid of the reject cups.

I've discovered some fun new snacks of my own recently...

The are the perfect mix of sweet and salty!

These are fabulous! Even Mike, who doesn't like sweets, eats two after dinner most nights.

I couldn't find a picture of the Valentine ones, but these are super yummy! Just make sure you only bake them 7-7.5 minutes. {The box says 8-10, but I like them better soft!}

I no longer have to pick out my favorite colors of Starburst, because I discovered FaveReds. I can't find them anywhere but Target.

I will enjoy some of these snacks this afternoon, because Mike and I are going to the movies for the first time since Christmas day 2008 {when we saw "Marley and Me"... horrible idea at 37 weeks pregnant!} We are going to see "The Blind Side" today, and I'm off to pack my purse full of goodies:)

12 month update and cousin love

The pictures above are from Trent's one-year photo session with Mari. As you can see, he was not very excited about the cupcake {he totally did not get this from his mother, who ended up eating some of it!} He also wasn't very happy to go outside in the cold for pictures. We're lucky to have a great photographer, who still managed to get some good pictures.

This is one of those posts that is mainly for me to look back and see what Trent was doing when he turned one. One thing he is not doing is walking. He will stand up by himself, cruise furniture, etc. But the boy will not take a step forward. I expect him to "just do it" one day, and I wouldn't be shocked if it was tomorrow or if it was months from now.

The 12-month check-up was zero fun. I was prepared for shots, but I was not prepared for two shots in the leg and one shot in each arm. He let the whole office know how much he hated it. He's still growing well. He's in the 90th percentile for weight {25 lbs 15 oz} and 75th percentile for height {30.5 inches.} He's wearing 18-month clothes, and it's time to buy some new shoes.

We're currently transitioning to whole milk, and he seems to like it. The sippy cup transition is another story. He will play with it, bite it, throw it, anything but drink from it. Hopefully we he will make progress soon.

He's finally getting teeth! He has cut four top teeth in the last month. That gives him a grand total of six teeth, and I'm pretty sure some molars are coming soon. His vocabulary consists of "Mamama," Dadada," "hey," and some chinese-sounding ramblings:)

He is happy to be facing forward in his car seat, and he loves swinging and riding in his wagon. I will be glad when it warms up, so these activities will be possible without lots of layers.

He also loves his cousin, Trevor. Tracy documented this encounter last weekend...

"Hey Trevor! I'm so glad you came to see me!"

"Do you want me to help you get out? I can push the button."

"Wait, I think you have something in your eye!"

This happens every single time Trent sees Trevor. He always goes for an eye-poke at some point. Trevor's eyes are super blue, so maybe he likes the color. Thankfully Trevor is a great sport, and I'm sure he will get payback soon:)

I still can't believe it's been a whole year since we brought this little baby home from the hospital. I could get all sweet and sappy, but I will save it for the baby book:)

ONE

Happy Birthday Trent!

Wow- I can't believe our "Super T" is one year old! This year has flown by, but it also seems like this little guy has been part of our family forever.

We decided to keep his first party small and simple. We invited family over to our house, ate pizza and cake, opened presents, and celebrated Trent.

Trent loves Mickey Mouse Club, so we went with a Mickey Mouse theme.

Trent was a little overwhelmed when he woke up from his nap and found everyone here, so he gave us "the look" again.

But, we told him it was his birthday, and he needed to smile if he wanted to eat cake and open presents. {HA! If only it were that easy!}

We bribed him into the high chair with Cheerios. I didn't post any pictures of Mike Trent opening presents, but he got some great things {his favorite- the wagon; a swing for outside, which we hope to try out this week; DVD player for the car; clothes; books; a few toys, and even some money.} Thank you sweet family for his gifts!

Then we brought out the cake. He did pretty well with it, probably because I started by giving him a few bites with a spoon. {He's not a fan of new textures.} Then, with the help of Uncle Travis, he put his hands in the cake.

He started on the thumb, and we thought he was finished with the cake.

We were obviously mistaken.

He was a happy boy the rest of the time, as long as somebody was pushing him around in the wagon.

He even let cousin Trevor ride with him.

Everyone thought the party was a success {or at least they thought better than to tell me otherwise.} I will admit that I am glad that his next party is another year away. I'm not the best party planner, and having a large group of people at my house {yes, I consider 12 a large group when they are in my home} was a little stressful for this amateur mom.

Tonight we are going to eat Mexican, {Trent's favorite} which is my idea of the perfect birthday dinner:) His one year check-up is tomorrow, so stay tuned for another post this week. I made a slideshow of pictures from his first year, and I might try to put in on the blog.

Roads and Resolutions

My dad gave Trent and Trevor special gifts this Christmas. He named roads at "Miller's Landing" after them. I know this is going to be more fun for them in the future, but we took them to see their road signs yesterday. We built a fire, grilled hotdogs and smores, and even had our own fireworks show by Mike and Travis.



I love this one! It's like he's saying, "Really? You named it after me?"

Notice anything different? Trent got his first "hair trim" this week.

I should probably do a new post regarding resolutions, but I'm normally not a fan of resolutions. And I just have a few. They are even somewhat attainable. In random order...

• Comment on blogs. {I love Google Reader, but I forget to come out and comment. I love comments, so I need to get better about it myself.}
• Read more books. {I love to read, and I didn't read much at all in 2009. I wonder why? ha!}
• Be on time to church. {Another one that was not difficult pre-Trent.}
• Take my Juice Plus every day.
• Shower regularly {You think I'm kidding, but unfortunately, I'm serious. I often take baths because I am too lazy to get up and shower in the mornings before Trent wakes up like baths. This results in greasy hair.}
• Be a better wife, mom, sister, daughter and friend.
• Designate a specific time for my "quiet time" and stick with it.
